Behavior Management

Treatment Without Pharmacologic Aids

Many behavior management techniques will be used to help your child with their dental treatment without the use of medications. Most children respond well but some children may be highly anxious. In that case, additional options will be discussed individually.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a safe and effective technique to treat anxious patients. The medication is delivered through a nasal mask and the patient remains conscious throughout the procedure.

General Anesthesia

Some patients are unable to cooperate for treatment in the dental chair and may benefit from treatment under general anesthesia. General anesthesia will allow the patient to have all the treatment they need at one time. General anesthesia will be administered by a trained anesthesiologist in the hospital operating room while the dental treatment is completed by your pediatric dentist. The risks and benefits will be discussed on an individual basis.
